Our Journey
L’Ignoto was founded on a common dream of a few friends with a shared passion to create the absolute finest expression of Tuscan wines. They come from different sides of the world. Nonetheless, they share a love of the land and a commitment to honor it. Their quest started by sourcing fruit from the most coveted parcels of land in Radda in Chianti and the hills of Montalcino.
Over 15 years ago, Chase Renton and Stefano Marinari met in Florence over a glass of Brunello while just starting their Winemaking careers. Chase was studying winemaking and working in Italy. Stefano was well on his way making wine at some of the region's most well-respected wineries.
Life took them in different directions. Chase moved back to America to start L’Angolo Estate, where he makes some of the finest Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays in America. Stefano became the head Winemaker at Castello di Bossi and Renieri and achieved critical acclaim with two 100 point wines under his belt.
Together, they began making an IGT Super Tuscan in 2014 and Brunello di Montalcino starting in 2016. The wines of L’Ignoto reflect their combined talent and finesse. Although coming from different backgrounds, they both are wildly committed to honoring the land and producing the “correct” expressions of the Sangiovese varietal.
The wines of L’Ignoto have been well received since their first release. Rather than dramatically increasing production the decision has been made to continue to focus on cherishing the fruit and striving to make better wine year after year.
In 2021, Albert and Shawn Menashe partnered with them to support their vision, growth, and purchase of the Estate vineyard in Radda.
